I need to get this post done before I forget the details!
Nick and I were finally able to celebrate our 1st Anniversary 2 weeks ago when
Nick was finally finished with all his classes and exams. We decided that every
year we will take turns planning Valentines and Anniversaries, so this year
Nick planned Valentine’s, and I planned our Anniversary. Next year I will plan
Valentine’s and he will plan our Anniversary, and so on and so forth.
Anyways, planning our Anniversary was not easy. I wanted to
do something really cool, but had trouble coming up with a good idea. I know I
wanted to get out of Calgary, and be somewhere close to the mountains. The
problem was winter was ending, so a lot of the winter activities were coming to
an end and summer hadn’t begun, so none of the summer activities have started.
I ended up surprising Nick with two days full of plans. We
drove up the Colombia Icefields between Lake Louise and Jasper, and boy, even
though winter has started to disappear in Calgary, it has clearly not left the
mountains. It was cold and snowy! We got into these really awesome vehicles
that could go down really steep hills. Once we got to a certain point we were
able to get out and explore, but due to it being at the beginning of the
season, it was cold. I mean really
cold! I would definitely like to go back, but later in the summer, when it's clearer outside.
After the Icefields, we headed back to Lake Louise for some
lunch and high tea at Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. It was soo good, and my
favourite part was the scones with whipped cream cheese and strawberry jam.
Yummy!
Finally we continued our journey back to Banff where we
checked into the Delta Banff Royal Canadian Lodge. We quickly got changed for
dinner and walked over to The Terrace where there was only one other group in
the whole restaurant. The food was AMAZING! It was seriously so good. I forgot
back when I made the reservation, that I told them it was our Anniversary, so
when they asked if we would like dessert, we said no. Well they ended up
bringing us dessert anyways with “Happy Anniversary” written on it because they
had it planned. The night ended with a quick swim in the pool, and just a
great night, just the 2 of us.
The next morning we had breakfast at El Torro and headed
back to Calgary. It was a great weekend, and it was so good to spend some
quality time together. Can’t wait to see what Nick has in store for next year!
